Kentucky is becoming a growing force in the biotechnology and life sciences industry. The Bluegrass
State offers a range of resources, from organizations, universities, and companies to foster the state’s
bioscience growth.
Kentucky hosts numerous biotechnology and life sciences companies within its borders. Among these

AllTranz in Lexington; ApoImmune, Inc. in Louisville; Intranasal
Therapeutics, Inc. in Lexington; Pradama Inc.;

Inc. in Louisville; Allylix, Inc. in

Kentucky’s educational institutions provide valuable resources for the life sciences industry. The
University of Louisville is home to the
Kentucky Biomedical Research Infrastructure
Network (KBRIN), whose goals include increasing competitive biomedical research and the capacity
for it; promoting collaborative research networks; supporting development of both physical and
intellectual infrastructure for biomedical research; promoting awareness of graduate degree programs
and biomedical research careers; and developing statewide bioinformatics infrastructure. The
University of Louisville also offers its Office
of Technology Transfer (OTT). The University of
Kentucky (UK) also provides its Intellectual
Property Development and Technology Transfer Office. Additionally, UK is a worldwide research
leader in the development of plant-made pharmaceuticals, or PMPs. Also at UK is the Markey Cancer Center, a premier cancers research center and patient care facility,
part of the UK Healthcare system.
Western Kentucky University boasts the Biotechnology Center, which was established to facilitate hands-on educational
opportunities for its biology students as well as to provide technical and educational services to the
state, the industry, and the public.
With its impressive resources available for collaborative innovation and research, Kentucky promises
a bright future in the biotechnology industry.
